Jimmie McCoy

Jimmie Lee McCoy of Hamden, CT gained his wings on Wednesday, July 3, 2024 surrounded by his loving family. He was born on February 15, 1939 to the late Eddie Ocie and Evella McCoy in Wilson, North Carolina. Jimmie was educated in the Wilson Public Schools System. In 1957 he relocated to New Haven, CT where he was employed at High Standard Gun Factory. He later worked for C. W. Blakelee who was bought by Tilcon Tomasso where her retired after 22 years of service. Jimmie accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age. He joining St. Matthew’s UFWB Church under the leader of Bishop Robert J. Gay and had been a faithful member for over 30+ years. He sang with the Male Chorus and was dedicated and active until his health began to fail. Jimmie loved to sing, he and his children were a part of their family group before giving it a name. In 2009 he started the group God’s Favor Chosen by God with his kids. He also sang with the BIG 6, gospel group. He sang at various churches in New Haven and surrounding areas. Jimmie was a proud full gentleman, he took pride in his vehicle and his wardrobe. After losing his beloved wife, the late Edna McCoy, Jimmie health began to decline and God called him home. Along with his spouse and parents, Jimmie was pre-deceased by two brothers, James and Harold McCoy, three sisters, Devella McCoy James, Ruby Barnes and Ruby Sanders. Cherished memories are left with his children – four sons, Kenneth (Vanessa) of Georgia, Dennis(Tasha), Vance Soloman (Carmen), Darrell Bellamy (Theresa) all of New Haven CT; daughters, Marilyn Grimes of East Haven, Angela Pemberton(Jackie) of New Haven, Cynthia McCoy-Jackson(Clarence) of Hamden, LaShawn McCoy-Nobles(Tony) of New Haven. Two extended sons Tyrone & Rodney Johnson. Jimmie also leaves Twenty-five grandchildren, fifty-four great grands and five great-great grands. Five sisters; Thelma King, Rocky Mount, NC, Barbara Duncan, Donna McCoy-Roberts(Jerold) New Haven, CT, Nina Hawkins, Wilson, NC and Mary Lucas, Charlotte, NC. One Brother, Alphonza McCoy, Wilson, NC and a host of nieces, nephews, longtime caregiver Romona McCoy Mayo, other relatives and friends.
