James Lacy

James A. Lacy (affectionately known as Lacy), age 80 of Hamden, Connecticut, entered into eternal rest on August 5, 2024 at Connecticut Hospice in Branford, Connecticut. He was born on September 25, 1943 in Selma, Alabama to his late parents Roosevelt Lacy and Dinea Minter-Lacy. He was predeceased by his wife, Isabel Brown Lacy. James attended Tyler High school in Selma, Alabama. In 1960, he relocated to New Haven, Connecticut and found employment at Farrell Corporation in Ansonia, Connecticut in 1961. He was employed as a machine operator at Farrell's until his retirement in 1991. James was a member of Mount Bethel Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend E.R Davis where he was a Board Trustee and he drove the church van to ensure members without transportation had a way to and from church on Sundays. James was a family man who cherished the moments spent with his loved ones. He was particularly fond of all his grandchildren. James' love for his family extended to his nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. Lacy had a special bond with his niece, Sabrina (Meet) Harris-Autry and nephew Robert (Moe) Harris. James' interest was fishing. He was an excellent fisherman and would often get into a debate with Moe about who is the better fisherman. He would always volunteer to drive family members to the South and back, and he was always the life of the family parties. James is survived by his two children, son Anthony Winfrey, of New Haven, CT, and daughter LaRonda Winfey-Osimeh (Gideon), of Hamden, CT. He is also survived by a bonus son, McArthur “Muggsy” Winfrey. He leaves to cherish his memories, his grandchildren of whom he was so proud of: Anthony Sledge, Sr. of Houston, TX, Tychieka Sledge of Houston TX, Asia Osimeh, Kaleb Osimeh and Kayla Osimeh, all of Hamden, CT, Destiny “Toni” Joyner of New Haven, CT, and bonus granddaughter, Doresha Williams-Orange. He is survived by 4 great grandchildren, Anthony Sledge Jr. of New Haven, CT, Mekhi Payne, Antasia Sledge, Antory Sledge and Dior Sledge of Houston, TX; four brothers, Birl Jackson (Loretta), of Hamden, CT, Charles Frank “Shelly” Lacy Jr. (Barbra) of Waterbury, CT, and William “Maine” George Lacy of Hamden, CT; three sisters, Mary Harris (Donnie). Fannie Mae Cadell, and Eleanor Reynolds-Hines (Craig); a loving and devoted aunt, Ethel Mae Coleman of Roxbury, Mass; his long-time companion Nettie Joyner of New Haven, CT; a brother-in-law, Lenny Brown of Ansonia, CT, 2 sisters-in-law, Donna Carrol of East Haven, CT, and Karen Brown of Ansonia, CT. Lacy is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family, and friends. In addition to his parents, James was predeceased by his mother- and father-in-law, Charles Brown and Eleanor Brown, and his bonus son, Bernard “Bernie” Winfrey. He was truly devoted to his family and friends. James was predeceased by his parents, the late Roosevelt Lacy and the late Dinea Minter-Lacy.
