Irish Ann Wright

On Saturday, January 23, 2021, the phenomenal woman, Irish Ann Wright suddenly entered eternal rest peacefully at home with her mother by her side. Irish was born on April 18, 1955 in Jacksonville, Florida. She was the daughter of Patricia Lee DeVore and the late James Anderson. Her mother relocated to New Haven, CT during Irish’s elementary years where Irish was raised and attended New Haven public school system. Irish was a graduate of Wilbur Cross High School and entered the corporate world at the age of 16 while taking advantage of the work study program offered at Wilbur Cross. She attended and earned college credits at South Central Community College, Southern State University and Albertus Magnus studying General Studies with a focus on Business Management. Irish applied the skills she learned to accomplish growth throughout her career. Irish was employed at Southern New England Telephone Company where she retired after 26 years of dedicated service. After an early retirement from SNET, she worked at Verizon Wireless in Connecticut, North Carolina and Florida and retired after 12 years of dedicated service. Also, a former employee of CT Dept of Labor & Dress Barn (Hamden). Irish was a compassionate and loving mother, grandmother, daughter and sister as she loved her entire family and friends unconditionally. She was a great listener and advice-giver to all. Many know Irish for being a Fashionista, an avid flower and plant lover with an impressive green thumb. She enjoyed reading, music, concerts, traveling, going to the casino, interior design, taking family photos, shopping for a good sale, a connoisseur of fine foods, and playing dolls and dress up with her granddaughter and great granddaughter. Her favorite hobby was shopping, and she was a decorative person with the utmost style and class. She loved family time and looked forward to family events. Irish had many moments in her life that became great memories, shopping trips that turned into hours of bonding time; giving tips and assisting with interior design to her friends. She loved sending cards with pictures inserted to everyone for holidays, special occasions, and just because. Irish was the calm laid back one of the crew always extending an encouraging word and more. Irish leaves to cherish her memories, mother, Patricia Lee DeVore of New Haven, CT; two daughters, Swan Wright (Keith Joyner, Sr.), Hamden, CT; Nikeysha Wright, New Haven, CT; five brothers, Walter Aaron (Barbara), Wilmington, NC; Donald Wright, Riviera Beach, FL; Larry DeVore, West Haven, CT; James DeVore, New Haven, CT; Robert DeVore, New Haven, CT; sister Lynette DeVore (Clyde), New Haven, CT; four grandchildren, Krisshonn Wright, New York, NY; Keith Joyner, Jr. and Keilan Joyner, Hamden, CT; Naria Hatcher, New Haven, CT and great granddaughter, Sophia Joyner, Hamden, CT; one aunt, Shirley Ann Moses, New Haven, CT; one uncle, Walter Wright, Newport News, VA; two goddaughters, Charra Moore, Hamden, CT and La’Shante Ruffin, Newport News, VA; one godson, Kristensen McKinnie, Hamden, CT and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends. Calling hour will be held on Wednesday, February 3, 2021 from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at Trinity Temple Church, 285 Dixwell Avenue, New Haven, CT followed by a Celebration of Life at 11:00 a.m. Due to COVID restrictions, Celebration of Life for Irish Ann Wright will be restricted to family and close friends.
