Ernest Sylvester Caldwell

Ernest Sylvester Caldwell, 74, of Blacksburg, SC (currently of Middletown, CT) passed away on Tuesday October 18, 2022. Ernest Sylvester Caldwell (better known as Vest or Ernie) was born on December 21, 1947, in Kings Creek South Carolina to George Aaron Caldwell and Ozora Lockhart Caldwell. Ernest lived in Blacksburg, SC, after the passing of his mother he was raised by Ms. Annie Burris and Paul Burris. Ernest graduated from Granard High School in 1966. He worked for Broad River Brick Yard in Gaffney, South Carolina before relocating to Connecticut in 1970. Ernest was employed with EIS before starting his career in 1974 at Pratt and Whitney. He worked second shift as a Lead Man for 47 years before retiring in October 2021. Ernest was a member and a Steward of Cross Street A.M.E Zion Church and part of the Men’s Ministries for many years where he was very involved. He lived his life with no restrictions, but was always there to support and provide for his family anyway he could. In his earlier days, he enjoyed riding his motorcycles, playing softball and playing Spades. In his older days, he grew attached to watching the Young and the Restless and Old Western movies. Ernest enjoyed just sitting in his living room listening to music for hours. He was not big on sports but liked the New York Yankees. He was a great caregiver, as well as a Strong tower in his church family. And cook, Ernest could cook! But would not touch a shrimp, lobster or a clam, NEVER. Besides his parents, he is preceded with one brother, Charles Lockhart and one sister Rosalee Caldwell Muckle; a host of aunts and uncles; parents-in-law, William and Dorothy Brown, sister-in-law Elaine Brown; raised as siblings, Bille Degree, Harold Degree, Elbert Degree, Fannie Mae Burris Covington, Ralph Burris, Danial Gaffney in the family home. He is survived by his wife Dorothy Louise Caldwell of Seneca South Carolina; five sons, Ernest Vincent Caldwell (Wanda) of Durham, North Carolina, Wesley Bernard Caldwell of Charlotte, North Carolina, Marvin Sylvester Harris (Anitra) of Meriden, Connecticut, Michael Terrell Caldwell (Ericka) of Windsor, CT, Ernie Caldwell of Waterbury, Connecticut; One daughter, Ernestine Loretta Caldwell of Middletown, Connecticut; One brother, George Caldwell, Jr of North Carolina; Two sisters, Pamela Ann Caldwell Littlejohn of Shelby North Carolina, Juanita Caldwell of Maple Hill, North Carolina; four brother-in laws Charles Brown (Denise) of Clemson South Carolina, Kenny Brown of Clemson South Carolina, William Brown of Statesville North Carolina, Robert Brown of Seneca South Carolina; two sisters-in-law, Patricia Cooper (Henry) of Seneca South Carolina, Betty Alexander of Seneca South Carolina; fifteen grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews and other family members.
