Ella Mae Manning

Ella Mae Manning was born on December 7, 1949 in Dillon South Carolina to the late John David Manning and Nora O’Neil Floyd Manning. Ella Departed this life on December 15, 2023 and into the arms of our heavenly father. Ella attended Dillon and Mullins County public school systems. She was one of the first students to leave Palmetto High School , and integrate to Mullins High School to end segregations in Mullins School District. After high school she attended Barber Scotia College for her Undergraduate Degree and Cornell University for her Masters Degree in Microbiology and food science. While attending Barber Scotia she became a member of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. She relocated to New Haven, Connecticut in 1978. Ella worked as a biologist for Johnson & Johnson and an Insurance agent for Blue Cross and Blue Shield. Then went on to work as the health educator for the Cornell Scott Hill Center for 28 years until her retirement in 2018. She molded young minds and educated children on the importance of wellness and health through the school-based health center. Ella was a very active member of her community and a member of many organizations such as Arts & Ideas, Ubuntu on Saturday mornings, the community garden, S.P.I.R.I.T, and various Summer Health programs, Community bible study program. Ella was an avid Bible scholar. She was a member of Springs of Life Giving Water Church under the guidance of Reverend William L Mathis. Ella was known for their exceptional style, poise, and grace which had a heavy influence on her granddaughter Layla. Ella will be remembered for her strength, resilience, patience, and steadfast faith. Ella leaves behind to cherish her memory her Husband Curtis Uqdah-Jennings, two Sons Rajaee Uqdah-Jennings (Nathalie), Abdul-Rahmaan Uqdah-Jennings (LaRoya) her three grandchildren Zahir Uqdah-Jennings, Layla Uqdah-Jennings, Rajaee Uqdah-Jennings II ; one brother LeeConnie Manning, two sisters Millie Mae Odom, OraLee Manning, Her dearest friend more like a sister Dr. Virginia Samuel, Step daughters Vyvette Isabelle and Keri King, and a host of nieces, nephews, and many other family members near and far. Ella was predeceased by her two sisters Sirlinda Jane Hayes and Dorothy Manning The family would like to thank Vitas Hospice team Gelian, Maggie, Amber, Sabina, and Shawn for their care and compassion. Thank you for the prayers and support. The calls and visits meant so much to her.
