Elizabeth "Betty" Dedmond

Elizabeth "Betty" Dedmond, affectionately known as "Mema" to her children and grandchildren, and “Miss Betty” to her friends and close neighbors, departed this life on April 11th, 2016 at her home in West Haven, Connecticut. Betty was born on February 2, 1942 to the late Arnold Robert Bentley and Mrs. Mae B.Sandford in New Haven, Connecticut. She was a Graduate of Wilbur Cross High School and stayed close to her roots. She was a Governors fan for life and every Thanksgiving she always cheered for her Alma Mater! Betty was gainfully employed at Yale New Haven Hospital where she dedicated 28 years of service until retirement. During her tenure at Yale, she met a lot of good people and created lifelong bonds with most. Her work family became our family. Betty was a member of St. Mary's U.F.W.B Church up until the time of her passing. She served on St .Mary's Usher Board, and is an Honorary member of St. Mary's brick project. She had a great relationship with her Pastor, whom she talked to quite often. Her Pastor taught her how to "Stand", and because of that and her relationship with God, she never waivered in her faith. Betty is survived by The Matriach of our family, Mrs. Mae Bentley Sandford, 96yrs young of West Haven, CT; Her Beautiful Children, Ms. Lucretia M. Avent, of Raleigh North Carolina, Ms. Ramona L, Avent, and Mr. Bryan Dedmond both of West Haven, CT. Three additional children whom she didn’t birth but loved as her own, Mr. Ashon Avent of Hartford, CT, Mrs. Tracy Burton of Springfield, MA, Mr. Shawn Garrett of Maryland. Five awesome Grandchildren, known as" MeMa's Gang", Lashonda M. Troxler, Roderick A. Cox III, (aka Dude, as she called him) Minister Shaqaun Maurice Avent, Ms. Amari Wilson, Ms.Taylor Wilson, and one very special Great Grandson, Carter Jai'sean, who she held very close to her heart. Everyone of them brought her so much joy. Each one had their own personal relationship with her, but they all got chastised the same! She also leaves to cherish her memories, her two favorite nephews Troy R. Bentley (special Niece, Cheryl), Keith Bentley, and (special niece Ms. Veronica Dacers), Great Nephew Keith R. Bentley Jr. and Great-great nephew, Kameron Bentley. She is predeceased by her sibling Arnold Robert Bentley, Stepfather Ivan Sandford, and late husband Luther E. Avent of Rocky Mount, North Carolina. Our Mother will be truly missed by many friends, family, and neighbors, but we will find peace in knowing that "Great was her Faithfulness" and she never would have would have made it as far as she did without GOD.
