Dora Pinkard

Dora Pinkard was born October 13, 1929, in Wilson, NC to the late Albert and Sallie Harris. Raised in North Carolina, Dora later moved to New Haven, CT where she married the late Paul E. Lofton. She became a member of Macedonia Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Bishop H. D. Bordeaux, where she served faithfully in various capacities. She loved her Bishop! She served mostly on the Pastoral Aide Committee and the Mother Board gathering people together. She was known for saying “you gotta love peoples!” She remained at her church until Paul's death in 1989. Dora later met and formed a solemn union with the late Pastor James E. Pinkard and became a member of Bethel Temple Church of God in Christ. They loved on each other and enjoyed life to the fullest until his passing in 2002. It was then she returned back to Macedonia. A mother to many and likewise a true Missionary, Mother Pinkard could be found at any moment taking care of someone. Whether it be feeding, clothing, or simply giving words of encouragement to them, Mother Pinkard used every opportunity she had to serve others. She loved to cook and her specialty was that good ole fashion banana pudding. In the early years of her life, she was a dedicated seamstress for many years before her retirement. She was fascinated with watching old things become new. Known to many as Sis Lofton, Mother Pinkard, or simply Grumma by her grandchildren, she leaves to cherish her memories a grandson whom she took under her wings as a son Sylvester Harris Jr. (Doristeen) of West Haven, CT., Jacqueline Daley of New Haven, CT., Angela Saunders of Arlington, TX., Takiyah Williams (Derick) of South Euclid, OH., Jason London, Jamal London, Sharda Mayes, Spencer Harris all of New Haven, CT., La’ Quadrick Bullock, and Brittany Bullock of Rocky Mount, NC. 15 great-grandchildren, Bonus son Michael Brown, bonus daughter Joann Newton, bonus grandchildren Megan Pinkard, Shawn A. Fuller, Kayla Pinkard, special cousin Rosemary Sanders and a host of nieces nephews and extended family. Preceding her in death are her parents; Albert and Sallie Harris, her one and only son Sylvester Harris Sr., 1st and 2nd husbands Paul E. Lofton and Pastor James E Pinkard, two brothers Sylvester Speight and John Thomas Speight; two sisters Beatrice Harris and Irene Thompson, and special cousin Dorothy Jackson.
