Dennis Rose Jr.

Dennis Rose Jr. was born December 31, 1945, in Wareham, MA, to Dennis Rose Sr. and Mary Lillian (Dias) Pires. His parents migrated to Massachusetts from Fogo, Cape Verde. Dennis was educated in the Falmouth School Systems in Massachusetts. He was a man who worked with his hands and his heart! Whether laying carpets and floors for Matsons or constructing and paving the roads and highways in Connecticut that we all drive on, through his labor as a construction worker he did what he did very well! Dennis peacefully and victoriously transitioned into eternal rest on Thursday, November 17, 2022, at 2:22 pm surrounded by his family after a long battle with prostate cancer and mesothelioma. #hewon Dennis’s proudest accomplishments were his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He loved, loved, loved his family and drilled into them the importance of staying together even when it gets tough. He loved a cool car and fine clothes. He was the jack of all trades and a master of some! He loved the water, including spending time with his old-time buddies down at the water hole after work, where they would shoot the breeze, play their numbers, and drink a bud or two! He had a green thumb and could certainly cook a good meal. Music was one of his love languages, from The Chi-Lites, The Whispers, and Tavares, to Santana, Jaheim, R. Kelly, Tupac, and even Tasha Cobbs (you know my name). Back in the day, you could find Dennis on the dance floor dancing and singing with a “fly” outfit and that hair flowing pointing and singing. Dennis was a man of wisdom, creating haikus and soliloquies that only those who knew him would understand when he spoke. He loved deep and hard, and he was a man who was going to say what he had to say and love you through it! He was noble and giving and stood on what he believed! He was a loving son, brother, father, grandfather, uncle and a true friend who would give the shirt off his back. On the exterior, he seemed tough as steel, but he had a heart that was soft and pure as gold. Dennis is predeceased by his parents, Dennis Rose Sr. and Mary Lillian (Dias) Pires, his siblings, Donald Andrews, James “Timmy” Andrews, Robert Pires, Keith Pires, Lorraine Jones, and Gertrude Roderick. He leaves to cherish his memory his siblings, Morris Andrews, Benjamin Andrews, Rose Gonsalvez and Gerri Hicks and Vasco Pires. His children, Deneen Rose, Duane Fortes both of Massachusetts, DeLita Rose-Daniels (Ahmad) and Damien Willis of CT. His grandchildren, Darren, D’Vaughn, DeVarius, Diamond, DeZiar, De’Mia, Damien, Krystiana, Darrence, Destiny, Janysia, and JessaLee. Seven great-grands, a host of beloved nieces, nephews, family, friends, and people who he loved dearly. You are invited to a gathering/celebration of his life on Sunday, November 27, 2022, from 3-5 pm at Silva’s Youth of Today, located at 656 Silver Lane, East Hartford, CT. His final resting place will be in Falmouth, Massachusetts, on December 3, 2022. The family would like to extend a special expression of thanks to Dr. Wylie Hosmer and his entire team at Hartford Healthcare Oncology Center, for the dignity, patience and trust they built to provide Dennis with the best care during some of his most vulnerable times through his journey with cancer. We also have deep gratitude for the compassionate team at Hartford Healthcare Hospice and the amazing nursing staff at Complete Care of Meriden. You all helped us love him home
