Curtis Dan McCray II

Curtis Dan McCray, II, (a.k.a. “Jack”, “Fresh”, “Curt”), 35, of Hamden, Connecticut went home to our Lord on October 26, 2019. Curt was born April 12, 1984 in New Haven, Connecticut to Curtis and Angela McCray. He lived in Hamden his entire life where he attended Ridge Hill Elementary School, Hamden Middle School and Hamden High School and was known by many as a creative thinker and a brilliant intellectual. Curt, a gifted and natural athlete, was introduced to the world of sports, camaraderie, and teamwork through the local Hamden Pop Warner League for whom he played basketball and football for many years. In addition to basketball and football, Curt excelled at taekwondo, achieving his 1st degree blackbelt at an extremely young age. Curt also served as an informal mentor and coach to countless individuals in the Hamden community. Raised in a home of love, Curt always appreciated and understood that the most important thing in life is family. Above all else, Curt was determined to be a great husband and father and to serve and take care of his community. And he did just that. Curt married the love of his life, Jessica, in September 2016. He was a loving husband and dedicated father who formed special bonds and lifetime friendships with nearly everyone that he met. Curt lived his life to the fullest and created a legacy that will live on in his children as well as in all the people whose lives he touched. He was full of love, light and laughter, and he appreciated the simple pleasures in life. Curt may have attempted to present a hard, tough exterior to some, but for those that knew him best, he was a kind, genuine soul – a good natured man with a wonderful, loving heart. Curt will be missed dearly. Curt is survived by his devoted wife Jessica Ortiz-McCray and 7 amazing children, Brandyn (20), Jamie (16), Curtis (14), Terrell (14), Wynter (5), Harlem (3), and Davon (8 months). He also leaves behind his loving mother Angela, siblings Curtis Gregg (“Frenchie”), Vanessa, Sheilah, Melissa, Terrence, Amy and Yolanda (“Dee Dee”), his mentor and godfather Uncle Benson, Avi (who he loved like a daughter), and scores of amazing aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, other family members and friends. Curt was preceded in death by his father, his daughter Giselle (“Muka”), 3 brothers (Alton Ray, Anthony, and Dwayne), and his best friend, Davon.
