Christine Ward

Sister Christine Ward 65, of Bridgeport, CT., was called home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 7, 2024, at her home. Christine was born, August 23, 1958 in Greenville, Alabama to the late Willie Mae Fanning Peterson and the late Willie Idell Peterson. She received an education in Stamford, CT., graduating from West Hill High School. Christine came to Stamford attending Dolan Middle School after leaving Alabama. She was raised from age six by her Dad and oldest Sister, the late Mother Annie Dorsey, after the loss of her Mother. Christine met her future husband after he met her at the wedding of his brother Jesse Ward Sr. to her sister Mary Ward. They met fell in love and were married for 42 years. Their first child together was a son, Bobby elizah Ward Jr. and their second child was a daughter, Josephine Elizabeth Ward. Christine was a stepmother to Udonda Williams, Terrrance Griffin and Tasha Griffin all of Williamston, NC. Christine stated they were her children, not stepchildren and Jakai Joyner. Christine worked for over twenty years or more at Waldenbooks before their relocating to Michigan, then Courtyard Garden until closing and then she worked at CVS until illness. Christine served on the Usher Board at GMU until illness caused her to retire. She always had her bags of peppermints and bags of different candy for anyone that asked. Christine was loved and cherished by her nephews and nieces because she was their chauffeur throughout their middle and high school years, their driving instructor until they all obtain their licenses, their babysitter from birth to daycare, some until entering elementary school. She had a heart of pure gold, always giving to others, smiling always and concerned about others and loved dancing. After giving her life to the Lord, she loved praising and dancing for HIM. She leaves to cherish her loving memories her husband, Bobby Ward Sr, one Son Bobby Ward Jr, one daughter Josephine Ward, two stepsons Terrance Griffin, Williamston, NC and Jakai Joyner. Two stepdaughters, Udonda Williams and Tasha Griffin, Williamston, NC. Two Goddaughters Carla Dorsey of Stamford, CT and Kimberly Webb of Raleigh, NC. Four brothers, Robert Thomas (Della) Grove Hill, Al., David Peterson (Cindy) Seymour. CT, Apostle Peterson (Pastor Merita) Raleigh, NC and Maurice Peterson, Greenville, Al. five sisters. Evang. Dee Valentine (Gerald) and Mary Ward (Jesse Sr) both of Samford, CT. Trudy Lee, Patricia Peterson, and Dorothy Marlowe all of Greenville, AL. Two dear cousins Frances Dorsey, FL and Jackie Kemp (Johnny)Bridgeport, CT. three brother in laws, Elijah Ward , Winchester, VA, Edward Ward, Norwalk, CT, Larry Rhodes Jr.(Judy)Greenville, NC special Cousin, Arron Bryant, Stamford, CT. five sister-in-law’s, Mary Purvis(Ray) Hamilton, NC., Carrie Ward, Betty Webb(William) and Ella Ward all of Williamston, NC and Ruth Harris(Thomas) of Greenville, NC., five grandchildren, one great grandchild, a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and the GMU Church Family. Sister Christine cherished her friendship and love with her GMU Church Family. She always talked about Bishop and Pastor calling to see about her and all the others, prayers and gifts sent to her by the Church Family. She was preceded in death by two brothers Willie Peterson Jr and Curtis Fannin, two sisters, Mae Kemp and Mother Annie Dorsey, one nephew, Curtis Wayne Kemp Jr., one niece Jeanette Martin, one brother-in-law, Curtis Kemp Sr.
