Carol Bonshur Pugh

Carol Bonshur Williams Pugh – daughter, friend, wife, mother, and grandmother – passed away May, 20, 2017, after a long and courageous struggle with sickness. Carol was born on May 6, 1944, to the late James and Cleon Williams in New York City. Carol was raised in Harlem by her mother and grandmother, the late Sarah Holmes (who was also a member of Convent). She attended the public schools of New York City, including Central Commercial High School (now Norman Thomas). She later earned her certificate as a key punch operator from Monroe Business College. Along with her brother Melvin (who sang in the choir), Carol attended Convent Ave. Baptist Church throughout her childhood and teen years, and was later married there as well to the late George A. Pugh. Carol gave her life to Christ soon after, later attending Salvation & Deliverance Church in Harlem under the late Apostle William Brown. In the early nineties, Carol moved to Teaneck, NJ, where she resided with her mother, son George, and daughter Crystal, and attended Prevailing Rock Ministries in Hackensack, NJ, under Minister Elder William Spellman. A dedicated worker, Carol worked in New York City all her adult life, employed as a key punch operator for a number of years with Empire Mutual Life Insurance Company and then later with the New York City Police Department, from which she retired after 20 years of service as an administrative aide. After 18 years in Teaneck, NJ, Carol moved to a senior retirement community in Toms River, NJ, where she diligently and devotedly cared for her mother until her passing in 2014. Carol then moved to Middletown, CT, to be near her daughter and grandchildren. But she really loved spending time with all her children and grandchildren, whether giving advice, going on shopping excursions or trips to the beach and Atlantic City. And, as most who knew her well, she was a die-hard coffee lover – a cup of java just made her day. Along with her parents and husband, Carol is predeceased by her niece, Michelle Freeman. She leaves to mourn 2 children: her daughter, Crystal L. Roget and her husband Joe of Middletown, CT; and son George Pugh (Darleen Goodwin) of Hackensack, NJ; 5 grandchildren: Raquel Roget, Rochelle Roget, Mariyah Moore, George Pugh, Jr., and Tianna Goodwin; 3 great-grandchildren: Makai, Mason, and Elijah; her brother, Melvin Williams and his wife Paula of Manchester, NJ; 2 nieces: Sheree Holder of Hackensack, NJ, and Nicole Williams of Aberdeen, NJ; her childhood friend, Carol Garrett, that she thought of like a sister, and a host of other relatives and friends.
