Carl F. Cherry

On Sunday, May 29, 2022, Carl Fodice Cherry departed this life and entered heavenly rest at Apple Rehab Center in West Haven, Connecticut. Carl was Known as a beloved father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle, nephew and friend, “Cowboy” embodied hard work and being a committed man to his family. Born on January 6, 1934, to the late Arthur Lee Cherry and Clara Louise Cherry. Carl spent his childhood in Greenville, North Carolina. He attended Pitt County Public Schools. Early in life, Carl became a member of Sweet Hope Baptist Church, in Simpson, North Carolina where he served on the usher board. On August 7, 1954, he married the love of his life, the late Mamie Jo Moore, and to this union they were blessed with three children: one daughter Teer Cherry-Harris, two sons Kenneth Cherry (Doris), Frederick Cherry (Marcia), and one bonus son the late Willie “Boot” Moore. Carl was employed with the Department of Transportation (Road service) in North Carolina. He was an avid wrestling fan and he loved going fishing. He loved to take long walks in the community. Carl also enjoyed going swimming in the ocean. Those left to cherish his memories are his three children; Kenneth Cherry (Doris) of Durham, North Carolina, Teer Cherry-Harris of Waterbury, CT, Frederick Cherry (Marcia) of New Haven, CT; Four Grandchildren Aric Cherry (Helen), of Naugatuck, CT, Craig Cherry (Shawnte), of Hamden, CT, Elijah Cherry and Taniya Cherry of New Haven, CT; Two Great Grandchildren Ny’siim Edwards and Ce’vaire Cherry. Two half-sisters; Wilhelmina Cherry of Greenville, North Carolina, Hannah Cherry of Chicago, Illinois, and one half-brother James Cherry of Greenville, North Carolina. Five sisters-in-law; Ruby Moore, Ann Moore, Jessie Moore, and Etha Moore all of Grenville, North Carolina and Dorothy Moore of New Haven, CT. Three brothers-in-law; Jimmie Moore, Kurtis Moore, and George Moore all of Greenville, North Carolina. Also one God Daughter Vanessa Sheppard (Val) of Greenville, North Carolina. In addition to his loving wife, Mamie Cherry, Carl was preceded in death by two brothers: Arthur Lee Cherry Jr, Ernest Cherry, and two sisters Gilda Raiford, and Helen Troy Cherry.
