Arthur Tyson

Arthur Oliver Tyson, lovingly known as “Mr.Clean,” was born on August 14, 1939, in New Haven, Connecticut, on Foot Street, to the late Bertha Oliver Tyson and Minister James Alexander Tyson. He was one of eleven children born into a large and loving family. His siblings include Jimmie Tyson, Jake Tyson, Bertha Tyson, David Tyson, Abdul Rasheed (Charlie Tyson), Paul Tyson, Robert Tyson, Judy Tyson, Joyce Tyson, and Fred Tyson. Arthur shared a deep love and bond with all of his siblings and extended family. Arthur was educated in the New Haven Public School System, where he laid the foundation for a life marked by dedication, hard work, and passion. In 1959, Arthur married Helena Moore Tyson, and they shared 16 years of marriage. From this union, they were blessed with three sons: Arthur Tyson Jr. (Gloria Tyson) of Florida, Alonzo “Sonny” Tyson of New Haven, and Antione Tyson (Marzelle Tyson) of Texas. Arthur was a proud grandfather to Artywana Tyson, Aaron Tyson, and Abigail Tyson, and a great-grandfather to Tywana Tyson, Tiewan Tyson, and Yanique Tyson. In 1976, Arthur remarried Regina, Tyson and together they made their home in New York until her passing. Arthur was a man of many talents and passions. He was widely recognized for his exceptional skill in horseshoes, earning a place in the Hall of Fame and achieving the remarkable distinction of being ranked the number two horseshoe player in the world. His love for the sport allowed him to travel extensively, competing in tournaments across the globe and earning respect and admiration from many. In addition to his athletic accomplishments, Arthur was a dedicated entrepreneur. He owned and operated Mr. Clean Window Cleaning Service for 35 years, taking great pride in his work and building a lasting business. He also worked as a private vendor for many years, continuing his spirit of independence and service. Arthur later became an author, sharing his life story through his autobiography titled “Number Two Ain’t So Bad,” reflecting his journey, resilience, and achievements. Arthur was preceded in death by his parents, Bertha Oliver Tyson and Minister James Alexander Tyson; his siblings Jimmie Tyson, David Tyson, and Paul Tyson; and his second wife, Regina Tyson Arthur leaves behind a legacy of love, perseverance, and excellence that will live on through his children, grandchildren, siblings, and all who knew and loved him.
