Alex E. Cox also known as "A.C. or Chilly C", was born May 21, 1941 in Greenville, NC. He departed this life on Saturday October 6, 2007 at the Hospital of Saint Raphael. A resident of New Haven, CT for approximately 27 years he worked for Ives as a machinist until his retirement in 1987. Funeral service will be held Sat. October 13, 2008 at 9a.m. at Church of God Prophecy 155 Grand Ave. New Haven. Calling hours at 8a.m. until time of service. Interment in Hamden Plains Cemetery A.C. called Jake by special family members didn't like to be called that. In the early part of life, A.C. loved to sing. He started a small band and they sang songs by James Brown, AL Green, etc. He loved cars and would buy and sale them as well. If you bought a car from him, you had better make sure you took good care of it and kept it clean (inside and out, if not, he would let you know about it). You would never see his cars with any dirt on them (not even finerprints). A.C. also loved motorcycles and was part of a bikers group. He was a Master at fashion and loved his hats and boots of all kinds. He is, and was always the coolest thing in the room (and he knew). You can't beat the love he had for his family, If you missed calling him to check in, you can bet that he would call you and let you know that he didn't hear from you. A.C. loved taking long drives with his wife just to see new places and things. His wife said "it's the little things that he would do that made things so special in our relationship. Things most people would complain about doing, he would do with a smile on his face". Most people didn't see the smile and thought that he was a mean person, but the truth of the matter is, he had a heart of gold and would do anything he could for his family and friends. Left to celebrate his life, his devoted wife of 29 years, Teresa Cox mother Minnie Godley, five children Brian Cox (Renee) of Killeen, Texas, Shelby Cox-Brown of Raleigh, NC, Tyrone Jenkins of Denver Colorado, Jennifer Jenkins-Green (Stanley) of New Haven, CT and La Tonya Cox-Graham (Louis) of West Haven, CT, 14 grandchildren and 2 great grandcildren. The oldest of 9 siblings, Roosevelt Cox (Jean) of Fortworth, Texas, Herbert Godley (Marilynn) of Greenville, NC, David Godley (Teresa) of Winston Salem, NC, Willie Godley of South Carolina, Mildred Robinson Of Greenville, NC, Minnie B. Godley of Greenville, NC, Josephine Jones (Danny) of Winterville, NC, Dorothy Godley of Winerville, NC and Annette Harris (Nathaniel) of Adyen, NC. He was predeceased by his father William Barrett, brother James Godley (Willa) and Godmother Bessie Barrett.
